National Science and Technology Fair 2019
Organized by Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation

Background

On 14 April 1982, the Thai cabinet issued a decree to honor King Rama IV as the “Father of Science” of Thailand and announced 18 August to be the “National Science Day”.

In 1984, the Ministry of Science and Technology (named at the time), in cooperation with other governmental organizations, hosted the “National Science Week” during 18 – 24 August 1984 for the first time. The fair gained much attention from governmental offices, private sectors, and the general public. Later in 1985, the cabinet then assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology (named at the time) to be the main organizer, along with collaborations with other science- and technology-related organizations, to honor the “Father of Science” of Thailand, through the “National Science Week” ever since.

In addition, the cabinet decreed 19 October as the “National Technology Day” of Thailand, to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, or King Rama IX as the “Father of Technology” and “Father of Innovation” of Thailand. “National Science Week” has later received cooperation from government agencies, organizations and private sectors. By adding additional activities, the fair has increased in size and has attracted much attention from students, youths, and the public. Since 2006, the National Science Museum under the Ministry of Science and Technology (named at the time) has been organizing the “National Science Week” in Bangkok by naming it the “National Science and Technology Fair”, which is the largest science and technology fair in Thailand.
