in the National Science and Technology Fair 2020  

In collaboration with 10 Countries, 88 Organizations, this year, The National Science and Technology Fair 2020 has been arranged various exhibitions and activities through the extensive collaboration from the organizations under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, other government agencies, private sectors, associations and international organizations.

The exhibitions and activities on 13-23 November 2020 at Challenger Hall 2, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani include:

EXHIBITION LANDMARK

“THE ROYAL CHITRALADA PROJECTS”

To honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great for his contribution in developing the country for all Thais, This exhibition landmark shows the symbolic mechanics from the royal experimental projects in agriculture in the Chitralada Palace, which are the experimental rice paddy, rice mill, dairy farm, tilapia pond, biofuel plant, water baler, mulberry paper workshop, and rice husk mill.

King Rama IV, the “Father of Science” of Thailand.

Back to His Majesty’s reign, in the midst of the quest for colonies of the great western powers, the king of a small country like Siam had demonstrated his genius to the world. His Majesty accurately predicted the time and location of the total solar eclipse, which became one of the greatest scientific research findings of the country. That event was considered a significant milestone of the nation’s scientific advancement and evidence of His Majesty’s intelligence and devotion to science and technology that led to national development.

The exhibition presents the His Majesty King Rama IV’s Philosophy for the Development of the Nation’s Science   Science of Siam, the foundation of development   Follow in the footsteps of the Father of Science of Thailand   King Mongkut The Great.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (King Rama IX) the “Father of Technology” and “Father of Innovation” of Thailand.

Commemorate the grace and wisdom of inventing for solving problems for Thai people of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (King Rama IX) with his long vision, His Majesty had always devoted himself to understanding various problems throughout the country. His Majesty was acclaimed as the father of multiple sciences for using the scientific ways of thinking in solving problems, which has later been developed to be The King’s Philosophy. Its three principles, including “understanding, access, and development”, can be broken down into 23 working methods for sustainable developments in every region throughout Thailand as demonstrated through the implementation of the 6 Royal Initiative Development Study Centers.

The exhibition presents: the operation of the Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Center, Chanthaburi. It represents the implementation of The King’s Philosophy as a concrete solution, by understanding the problems, accessing the local population, raising awareness, developing life quality, and encouraging life-long learning. From the upstream forests to the sea, any problem can be solved by applying the scientific and technological methods to find the solutions, which will successfully restore the fertility of natural resources and enhance the local population’s life quality.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (King Rama X).

From the Royal Command of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (King Rama X) which states in Thai that “เราจะสืบสาน รักษา และต่อยอด และครองแผ่นดินโดยธรรม เพื่อประโยชน์สุขแห่งอาณาราษฎรตลอดไป” (Translation as “I shall continue, preserve, and build upon the royal legacy and shall reign with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the people forever.”), His Majesty graciously ordered the Royal Initiative Volunteer Project to carry on and extend various royal duties of the late King Rama IX and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother for the benefit of all Thai people. This project started from small communities and has expanded throughout the country, such as the Khlong Mae Kha Development Volunteer Project in Chiang Mai, where all sectors under the Royal Initiative Volunteer Project have jointly developed the environment in the Mae Kha Canal area and the two sides of the canal.

Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.

Commemorate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on the work on developing the life quality and well-being of people and nature conservation. The Foundation For the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen or “SUPPORT” Foundation was initiated by developing the local wisdom in each region into value-added products and encouraging natural material preservation through safeguarding the environment, which allows people to live with nature and utilize natural resources sustainably.

The exhibition presents: Her Majesty’s vision in natural resource conservation for the people’s life quality development   High-value resource, towards sustainability.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn

Her Royal Highness has initiated to revive the western forest in the Pha Daeng Zinc Mine area into the fertile forest and supported learning of environmental conservation and restoration in various ways including the Pha Daeng Botanic Garden.

The exhibition presents Her Royal Highness’s vision and initiative in the western forest conservation.   Research and studies in conservation and restoration.

Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana.

Her Royal Highness is the Princess of Science of Thailand who gave attention and devotion to research and studies about cancer’s causes and mechanisms at the molecular level. Her Royal Highness has strong determination and perseverance in developing cancer treatments in Thailand to be as advanced as other countries.

The exhibition presents: cancer treatment projects  Affordable high-quality medicine for Thai people.

Thai Monarchy and Higher Education

Throughout history, The Kings of Thailand have always played an important role in laying the country’s education foundation. It became a system since the early Rattanakosin period, which was still a pure education in Thailand without any influence of western content mixed in.

Phrabat Somdet Phra Paraminthra Maha Chulalongkorn Phra Chulachomklao Chao Yu Hua
(King Rama V) ordered the abolition of the slavery system and offered educational opportunities to commoners by founding the first higher vocational school in Thailand. This school provided academic knowledge for people who would serve the country in national development. The idea of establishing the first university in Thailand was also initiated during his reign.

Phrabat Somdet Phra Paramenthra Maha Vajiravudh Phra Mongkut Klao Chao Yu Hua (King Rama VI) inherited the previous king’s determination by establishing Chulalongkorn University from the expansion of Civil Service School for those who wish to pursue higher-level studies.

His Royal Highness Mahitala Dhibesra Adulyadej Vikrom, The Prince Father improved medical education that has become the foundation of Thai medicine nowadays and influenced the advancement of the whole higher education system in Thailand as well. His Royal Highness also supported people who would become a powerful force in academic development in various fields by granting scholarships from his personal fund.

SOL#1 : A DAY ON MARS

Simulating one day of living on Mars

Explore the challenges of the Living on Mars mission through simulated experiences on the Red Planet, the new hope of humanity. Learn about its physical characteristics, history, and scientific and technological advancement of the Mars exploration project that has inspired humankind to reach this planet.

This exhibition and its activities offer scientific and technological inspiration through the Mars exploration. Let’s learn about Mars’s physical characteristics and resources, search for traces of water essential for life, foster imagination with the concept of living on the new planet, and equip yourself with the knowledge to raise awareness of using the today world’s limited resources.

HIGHLIGHT
Join in on an expedition to Mars to explore the possibilities of human settlement. Face the challenges and limitations in space and get to know Mars from diverse perspectives. Learn about its physical characteristics, technological developments, and the Mars exploration project in various dimensions, including traveling, photography, and exploration of water, atmosphere, and minerals.

Mars Live
The audiences will have an experience of living on Mars, such as houses, food, clothes, and medicine, through simulated situations during the Mars exploration in an immersive interactive live show, No Place Like Home.

PLANT RANGER

Saving the Planet, Saving all Earth’s life

The planet Earth is set to be doomed by the invasion of vicious plant killers. The wicked minded villain human force causing deforestation is threatening all life on Earth.
To save our planet from the crisis, we need to defend plants as Plant Rangers, as plants sustain all life on Earth. “Saving the Planet” is “Saving our Planet”, and thus “Saving all Earth’s life”.

HIGHLIGHT Plan Rangers Operation Centre Exhibition
  • Introduction Station Exploring the Plant Rangers Operation Centre by getting to know our mission. Finding out what plants are and their importance, including everything you need to know about plants. How do you know if a plant is healthy or getting sick? Let’s find out more about the “Photosynthesis System” experiment at this station.
  • Plant Operation Station: Food (Highlighted Zone) Finding out why plants are called Producers and how plants make their own food out of inorganic compounds through Photosynthesis. Exploring vital roles these plants play in human cultures in supplying food and providing medicines. Unmasking the vicious Plant Killer in disguise by learning the environmental impact of pesticides towards ecosystems and how to defend plants in order to sustain food security. Moreover, let’s discover a wide variety of edible plants that you might not know existed.
  • Plant Operation Station: O2 Experimenting on how plants produce oxygen that is vital for the cellular respiration of all aerobic organisms through photosynthesis at this station. Exploring how plants can help to maintain the ozone layer that shelters all of Earth’s life from harmful UV radiation and how plants can help to reduce the greenhouse effect and global warming.
  • Plant Operation Station: Home Exploring how plants create suitable habitats for many organisms in ecosystems. Finding out how to save their forest home from deforestation. Discovering how a single plant can supply food and provide shelter to various species.
  • Plant Operation Station: H2O Exploring how plants help to maintain the water cycle and evaporation balance in ecosystems. Discovering the role of plants in healthy watersheds and the effects of deforestation on watershed areas. Finding out more on how to save plants from deforestation and degradation.
  • Plant Operation Station: Harmony Exploring how plants can help to improve your mental and physical health in recreational ways. Getting to know a wide variety of fragrant and aromatic plants and how to utilize them. Finding out how to protect plants from demise as a result of harmful pesticides and deforestation, as well as to rebuild the depleted natural habitats and ecosystems via deforestation. Discovering the physical and chemical compound structures of aromatics through DIY essential oil extraction. Enjoying yourself trying, testing, and smelling fragrances of a wide variety of aromatics.
  • Hands-on Activity Zone Now, you can transform yourself into any of your favorite Plant Rangers at this station! Let’s save our plants from the wicked Plant Killer in disguise. Let’s start with a DIY mini garden in a try (open terrarium). Don’t miss the fun science on stage and enjoy more edutainment programmes, such as the Special Research Show by Naturalists, Bingo, Plants, and the Nature Quiz Contest.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

Learn and create for sustainability with environmental concern and social responsibility.

The environmental crisis that the world is facing is related to human behavior, especially the linear economy that values profit regardless of the environmental concern. It is time for us to change our behavior and use science and technology knowledge to create a circular economic system in order to achieve the world’s sustainable development.

This exhibition and its activities show various global crises, including pandemic, air pollution, water shortage, waste problem, animal extinction, and severe climate change influenced by human behavior. If we continue to live the same way, we may have to face a mass extinction caused by our own hands. It’s not too late for us to change now. Learn to find the answers, change for survival solutions, and create sustainable development. You can do it all by yourself.

MICRO MONSTER

Dealing with disease threats with hygienic practices.

The spread of disease affects people’s lives globally and cause inevitable changes to many activities in our life. Technology and innovation have played a more prominent role and become a vital tool that helps prevent and protect from disease spreading and make our life more convenient.

This exhibition and its activities are in celebration of the 2020 International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, on the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, a British nurse who contributed to the modern nursing system. Her work principles focused on hygiene awareness, which has inspired the concept of self-protection and the application of technology and innovation for living a quality life amidst the long-term pandemic crisis.

GENOME: HUMAN SECRET CODE

Get to know the genome, the blueprint of all livings

The genome is all genetic materials vital to the living. Understanding of the genome will benefit us in medicine and public health, the economy, and conservation.

This exhibition and its activities offer understanding in studies of the genome of organisms by looking for its arranging pattern, gene functions, the relation between genes, the relation of genes and environment, and the role and influence of each gene in its expression on an organism. It also explores the application of genome studies in the medical field, synthetic biology, biodiversity conservation, and the Genomics Thailand project.

An overview of cells to chromosome genes in humans and organisms such as plants and animals, gene detection, and its benefit in DNA evidence.

The genome is a blueprint of living things that benefits us in medical and public health, the economy, and conservation. Get to know the overview of Genomics Thailand and learn about bioinformatics.

MAKER: MAKE YOUR FUTURE

Everyone can develop invention and innovation that leads to a business.

The true essence of being a maker is to enjoy fun and happiness while working, inventing, thinking, solving, and sharing.
This exhibition and its activities hope to inspire you to be a maker, to create innovation for solving daily life problems and develop it into your own business. Everyone can be a maker. You can find makers in all working fields. Get inspired by the maker idols who will show you their obstacles and how they overcome and turn it into a business. Sharpen learning skills of the 21st-century youth, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation, through learning outside the classroom, which will foster a positive attitude toward science in Thai society.

The International Exhibition

(Living with COVID-19)

The outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) that causes the COVID-19 marks another cycle of battles between humans and crown-shaped coronavirus, with at least 35 million people infected worldwide. During the development of the COVID-19 vaccine, everyone in the world still has to live in the midst of the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak.

The exhibition presents the battle between humans and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by understanding the mechanisms of infection prevention with various innovations, preparing our body immunity, and diverse ways to deal with COVID-19. No matter who will win in this battle, the adaptation of everyone in the world and the variety of methods and innovations will help everyone continue living, no matter how many more outbreaks will occur in the future.

HIGHLIGHT

“Green Prescription”, a natural prescription that will make the body healthy, such as bringing yourself closer to nature or doing hobbies in a relaxing environment.
“Strong from the Inside”, lets you learn about the defense mechanisms of our body using natural herbs.

Ignites STEAM learning for all learners by learning through play with LEGO ® education bricks. Experience making hands-on inventions and develop creative and imaginative skills in the digital world. Do workshops on simple mechanics by observing science, engineering, and technology seen surrounding us and practicing by yourselves.

Student Science Project Competition
Science event competition for youth, organized by government and private sectors in collaboration with The Science Society of Thailand Under the Patronage of His Majesty the King, showcases the works of science, technology, innovation and natural science projects of Thai youth at primary, secondary and vocational education levels. The date of competition includes:

  • 13 – 15 November 2020, Vocational Science Project Contest.
  • 15 November 2020, Mathematics Project Contest.
  • 16 – 18 November 2020, Young Scientists Rally Contest.
  • 19 – 20 November 2020, Secondary level Science Project Contest.

Within the activity area, there is also an exhibition to honour the outstanding science personnel of the year 2020 and the work of imaginative drawings and cartoon science of the youth who have won awards from the science activity competition for the youth of the Central Region of Thailand.

Prime Minister’s Science Award 2020

Science is the cornerstone of national development and a key factor in the development of quality manpower to support the global change. The importance of education in science, technology, innovation and environmental considerations is of great necessity in today’s society. The making of the youth science project is an important project to promote youth to apply their scientific process skills in project preparation to create new technology and innovation ideas to solve problems in their daily life or within their own locality, including receiving support from teachers and educational institutes to help build a scientific society and raise scientific awareness, which nowadays, there are science projects of youth who have submitted their work to participate in the contest on the world stage and has received many awards from both domestic and overseas throughout the past year.

Prime Minister’s Science Award Project was initiated since year 2017 by Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. It aims to support and motivate the youth to develop the integrated scientific research skills, promote creativity and positive attitude to science and technology, build network among youth and teachers, and encourage them to generate work for science, technology, innovation and environment.

Exhibition of Science, Technology and Innovation from One Tambon One Product (OTOP) Product by Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation

Showcasing at the National Science and Technology Fair from 21 – 23 November 2020, at the activity area. The products of OTOP are from research and innovation of the local wisdom in Thailand, with the support from the ministry and to enhance an opportunity of OTOP products to reach international standard and market. There are 30 OTOP agencies attend the fair, by showcasing the products including food, clothes, housewares and souvenirs.

For example:
• Instant Thai custard cake: A dessert that is developed by improvement of ingredient selection and applied technological production until the demi-processed Thai custard cake is ready for everyone to cook at home.

• Wood clock: Using a scientific knowledge to minimize wasted. prevent the damage and prolong wood utilization from fungal, insect and shrinkage.

Department of Science Service
DSS Paper Neverland presents exhibitions and activities that strengthen the knowledge and understanding of the importance of science and scientific thinking for young people. In order for the youth to learn about science close to them, encourage learning about BCG with paper products as the main medium, encourage the importance of the utilization of scientific and technological knowledge to be the fundamental method of thinking through participation in activities according to the scientific way of thinking.

Photo Exhibition – River Beauty of ASEAN Presents an exhibition about water resources of ASEAN and China to demonstrate the importance of water resources and their connectivity in ASEAN countries and their relevance to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on water management and sanitation. This focuses on industrial development Innovation and infrastructure and conservation of marine resources. This is a scientific issue that is important for enhancing the quality of life and economic development of the ASEAN region. The public should receive knowledge and be aware of the importance of the matter to contribute to the effective management of water resources and sustainable use of water resources. The exhibition is a project under the policy of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to promote science and technology cooperation in ASEAN countries.
